The pictures and banding are fantastic. Do you have any idea how this formed?

Chuck, the photography is stunning! The LSA is off the charts beautiful! I can see why this one has been predominately displayed! I have some pieces of Flor de Durazno Lace Agate which have "similar" banding like that. I have the preforms cut, but haven't cabbed any of them yet. This had me chomping at the bit to get a couple of them done now.

That is incredible!
It reminds me of blown glass with the clarity of the area between the bands. Although I would have loved to get such a perfect spacing in any of the glassblowing I did!
In that third picture, it even looks like there is some bubbles or particles stuck on one of the bands.
Thanks for sharing those amazing pictures!

Nice specimen, Chuck. I sometimes stare at these things in amazement, with the complexity and endless pattern possibilities. They are truly works of art. Thanks for sharing.

An extraordinary stone!
The closeup of the banding is an amazing picture. Thanks for sharing all the different sides of this stone.

Nice agate, I’ve heard the term shadow agate or parallax banding used to describe alternating translucent and opaque banding. I had to Google parallax banding just for something to do! LOL You were spot on with the identification. It lead me to the website below which as some great descriptions of different types of agates. It defined the Shadow/Parallax Agate as: "When a banded agate forms with close alternating opaque and transparent bands, the light entering the agate can cast an observable shadow from one opaque band onto the next. As the parallel bands change their perceived angle, the appearance of movement and perception of depth occur." agateswithinclusions.com/agate-information/

Hmmm...interesting. I'd have lost a bet on that one. I would have guessed Bot. I have several lakers that would pass as bots and vice versa. This one would probably be considered a root beer shadow Lake Superior agate. Chuck

Yes there are some minerals laying on that one single band. They actually sparkle a bit wen moving the stone in the light. That was why I tried to get that macro photo. Glad you caught it. Chuck
