I do something hobby related every day. Yesterday was shopping for material and design work. Today was the trim saw. Too cold to grind, maybe tomorrow.

It is cold in the northern climates to cut outside. Here is my saw today:

Pretty. I recognize a couple of these rocks in your latest post.
It is interesting to see how you framed each of these, using a template to allow the most appealing characteristics of the stone to come out. I wonder what percentage of the material is lost to the saw.

When I lay out a slab, I look for patterns to frame. Ideally, only the areas where there isn't a pattern I like. Decisions need to be made about how to use the patterns with sacrifices made. Here is a slab of Badger Pocket Sycamore that I laid out. Some areas are a little tight for the trim saw and I may pick smaller shapes to leave more room for the cuts. The customer wants pendants and earrings. I did a first draft to see how she liked the orientation. The line down the middle is a healed fracture. I never worked on the material so I don't trust that it will hold together.
