They are only super rare because they were made by me I've been such a slug lately. I made these first two as potential entries in this month's cabochon contest "Earth and Sky" theme but decided to go with an Owyhee instead. Apache Sage dendritic rhyolite Starry Night picture jasper. This material is tricky to photograph because most of it has micro-pits in the surface and they tend to hold tiny amounts of the polish that can't be seen with the naked eye but they reflect the light and show up in photos. This is a German rhyolite/agate cab I made last summer I think - I thought I posted a photo of it already here but I can't find it so...

Those look really good. I also have that problem with the polish. Was considering a sonic cleaner, but wasn't sure if it would actually fix the problem or not - maybe others have feedback on that?

Good looking cabs Tommy. I really like that Rhyolite...the colors and patterns really seem to give that one some "depth".

The apache sage is really beautiful. Is this the same thing as Mimbres?

Beautiful cabs Tommy! Starry night seems to be rare as hen's teeth. Got a secret stash you'd like to $hare?

The apache sage is really beautiful. Is this the same thing as Mimbres? I heard it directly from a major source of Mimbres that no, they are two distinctly different materials from the same general region. From my experience with Mimbres it is more porous and less silicified meaning it doesn't take as good of a shine. Obviously that doesn't stop people from selling them interchangeably.

Beautiful cabs Tommy! Starry night seems to be rare as hen's teeth. Got a secret stash you'd like to $hare? Rarer than teets on a bull? Yes and no ... I've got a small handful of maybe five preform pieces left that are worth cutting but by far all of my good stuff has been stabbed and cabbed. I have one premium piece that is set aside for the missus - she reminds me often that she has yet to get a Starry Night. What's left mostly have the annoying healed fracture lines like at the bottom of this one I posted. I did have a connection to the dude who mined it but I kind of lost touch with him after having to bail on a trip to so see him right about the time Covid happened.

Pretty cabs, Tommy! I think you chose wisely entering the cab you did, though.

All three are beautiful! I love the looks of that starry night, but that rhyolite grabs my attention and won't let go. It is quite dynamic looking material.

I like all three. The are really colorsul and have a nice polish on them too. My favorite is the field of poppies in front of the desert sunset.
