With the help of barrels and a vibe, I've got two finished batches of rocks collected on a July vacation in the Black Hills area of South Dakota. I think what I have here are mainly prairie agate and jasper, bubblegum agate, and petrified wood. Other ID's would be welcome. The first 2 are group shots, the third is a closeup of some especially cool ones. Thanks!

Kim, I haven't weighed and I am a rotten guesstimator. Maybe 100-150 lbs from South Dakota and more from other places? Or maybe that's an overestimate. I'll ask my traveling companion. Good question.

Those look really good, nice shine! Do you have any close-ups of groupings of the ones you are wondering about the ID on? Your ID sounds good to me.

Beautiful rocks and shine! It's so much fun collecting them isn't it? You don't realize how many you have until you start unloading them! LOL!

I agree. That's an awfully nice shine, especially for such a short time. That's some pretty great work!

Thank you everybody, I am truly thrilled with these. As noted, I got them done in less than a month and that includes 3 days of power outage. There are some dings and bad shaping in there that I purposely overlooked but will probably regrind. The thing is, between the type of rock and the miracle vibe I presently own, they polished up beautifully anyhow. The lototumbler often gets a great shine in 12 and a true mirror finish in 24 hours.
Kim, Joe said he thought about 150 pounds, and said that would be his conservative estimate. Then probably 100-150 lbs more from other sites.
RS, I don't know that there are really any major rock ID issues with these, except that I know that some of these are name agates; for instance, I believe this is the batch that has some moss agate in it I think -- or maybe that was the last one? I wasn't really happy with my first batch, which actually was more Montana and Wyoming, and didn't post it. This batch also has soomething that looks like flames or plumes (toward the center in the closeup) and I am just in love with the other closeup rock with that perfectly formed teardrop of caramel color in the middle of the blue/black. I'm interested in whether the speckled stuff is a name agate. I've got more coming along shortly, along with a batch soon to be out from a different site, where jade is the search object but again, the ground is a carpet of jasper and agate. I did a batch containing many of the green rocks, naturally I picked up anything green, and it is in polish now.
The polish quality really is awesome, especially considering the short length of time, and I am certainly going to experiement to see how far I can push it. Wow, between barrels and vibes I have a lot of South Dakota rock rolling right now.

Pups-
Great looking collection there. Excellent shine and hey, if you've got petrified wood in the mix, all the better!!!
Life can't be too bad if you've got wood.
