Here's my attempt to post pictures, hope they work. These are from my rock club's trip to Austin Nevada Here's flourite from mine tailings This is snakeskin agate - it comes in many different colors. This is the milky while material.... This is the agate in red.... You can see where it gets its snakeskin agate name. This is almost creepy looking, like a snake is wrapped around the rock.... Red Jaspar Daisy Agate - not as pretty on the outside, but is supposed to make really cool slabs with a starburst pattern. Lots of the pieces have druzy One of the rock sites. Great trip. Pictures are just samples. I brought back several 5 gallon buckets full. Can't wait to go again. Thanks for looking Janine

Great Haul! I like the red agate and the purple flourite. Is that the Roseville club? I was in the area the weekend of the their big rock show picking up my monster saw. The guy I bought the saw from mentioned the saw.

Wow, Very nice haul. Not sure which I like best. Are all the vehicles 4 wheel drive? Can you get there with a 2 wheel drive truck?

Cal - my club is the El Dorado County Mineral and Gem Society. There were also some Reno Club members that came along. At one location we had a caravan of 18 vehicles. They have been making this trip over the 4th of July for years.
Ed - Cars/trucks needed to be high clearance vehicles, some high grasses and deep ruts. The blue Subaru is mine and it made all but one (hopped in someone's monster truck for the journey) that had too deep of a rut for my car to navigate.
Nevada has lots to offer, seems like there are offroad locations everywhere, almost no fencing and all kinds of interesting material. Its not a day trip for me, but perfect for a long weekend.

Kim... That's too Funny! Viagra Rock! ;D Great pics Janine. Looks like you got some fantastic material there. Nevada is a treasure trove for rockhounders. Lots of old mines, ghost towns and area left to explore. Thanks for sharing the pics. Steve

Kim - too funny. I can't look at that rock the same way any more. May have to hack it off (sorry guys).
KD - I picked up lots of pieces with my tumbler in mind since I really stink at breaking up rocks. The snakeskin agate is supposed to tumble well but with a slightly different process. I'm told that if you tumble it right some of the outside scaling will stay and the agate will show through the center.
Since I have enough of the flourite I might try carefully tumbling some and see what happens. Some will be for landscape rock and the rest I just ooh and aah over on a regular basis. I might have to sign up for the travelling box so I can share some of these with you guys.

Wow! Am totally blown away by the Daisy Agate and Red Snakeskin. Have never seen either of those materials. Is the site a secret or from one of the Gem trails books? Our club needs some good fieldtrips like that one. Will have to contact our field trip guy and see if he's heard of that material. Really nice photos and beautiful agate! Keep the pics coming!

J-
Great finds there. What a nice selection. Have you tumbled the snakeskin before? Keep us posted on how they are coming. Before you go nuts w/ the hammer, try to have one of your rock buddies saw a few in half (if you don't have a saw of your own) to see what they're liked cut.
Well, you broke the rules showing us reds......a bunch of us are suckers for the reds....LOL.
Show us finished ones when they're done too.
