Should have done better research on tumblers. I got a MJR Tumbler with 3× 6 lbs barrels and 2× 10 lbs barrels for $550. The barrels are not rubber but they have some kind of support structure inside the barrels. This has me worried because everyone here is basically talking about Lorton and their rubber barrels. Did I make a mistake? Can I fix this by just buying rubber barrels? Will I have to buy a new tumbler?

You can run them. Alot of people build their own bbls out of PVC pipe which is what that is. The structure inside is to help the tumble action I suspect but I haven't seen inside one so.. The thing to watch with PVC is it thinning out over time and breaking. At that point assuming the motoer and rollers are good you can just get new bbls (rubber or pvc) and continue one. With all that said I have no details on quality and longevity of the MJR but someone can chime in soon on that.

Nice tumblers. Rubber is great but those barrels should last a while. You can always pick up rubber barrels down the road or build PVC ones. My Thumblers barrels are over 10 years old and still going strong (they are rubber) The lids on the other had, well Lets say I have had more than one blowout! I have taken to gluing acrylic disks to them to extend their life (I get 3 to 4 times the life span).

Interesting internal design. Should keep the rocks agitated very well, but my guess would be that in a relatively short period of time those as will be worn away to nothing. I hope I'm wrong!
