Here is my lates attempt at cabbing: My tiger eye heart (it still needs lotsa work) it was very vugy & has imperfections - but hey it's tiger eye My two tiger eye cabs: destined for earring set (when I complete the other tear drop shape) and my amethyst cab (this was from my batch of amethyst - this was one of the "less nice" pieces I'm surprised it turned out this good

you are a natural, Tweet, wouldn't be surprised if there ain't a genie in your future...i am about to attempt my first heart shape this weekend. to finish it anyway. i cut it and shaped it and finally got it on the dop stick...you got any tips for me?

KD make sure your belts are straight and aligned with the edge of your drums if it,s not, it wobbles and makes BIG gouges in the joint, I thought it was pretty easy "use the edge to create the top"they said but getting the finer belts to sand away was pretty daunting. They told me I had guts to try a heart shape - I paid $1 for this slab of tiger eye & got 2-3 pieces out of it - I need help with the rounding out part - the dop stick is a god sent - just be careful in the "bum" part!

These were done on silicone carbide grinding wheels & belts - start off in 100 cuz it's so darn hard and then 220, 400 & 600 then polish in CO. The club has a diamond wheel machine - it's not a genie, but another brand (6 wheels, grits go from 80 to 3000! no polishing compound used on those) The large oval had little "tubes" of some type of "metal" perpendicular to the surface and when I polished it up the polish would penetrate those holes & make it seem as if there was a cloudy film under the surface - so that one was redone on the diamond machine (not by me).
I've signed up for a cabbing course and was told that you must show the cabbing expert of the club 3 cabs done on the SC machine and they must be done to his satisfaction to be able to move on to the diamond machine!! A few women were there and they were pretty impressed that I hadn't even taken a course yet - they say I have potential.
Joe: no tutorial really, just used a template to trace the shape, then grinded to the line & rounded it up. Use the edge of the machine to do the top - quite easy to rough shape - it,s the rounding up that was more difficult - can,t help there, as I don't even know how I ended up with what I got - one minute I'd made it worse - the next it was okayish - I didn,t show the top of it, it still has needs for a finer grinding...

"I don't even know how I ended up with what I got - one minute I'd made it worse - the next it was okayish" Well, whatever you're doing it's working well! Keep it up. You make it sound easy. Now all I need is a grinder and I can play too!! Joe
