Very nice. I was playing around on the flat lap with a piece of Amazonite rough to see if I could get anything out of it. It flakes and broke apart several times till I just gave up.

I still haven't had the guts to try anything with the jade you sent me awhile back... I think they're beautiful. I really like the shape you chose on the second one.

In general, jade usually isn’t all that difficult, unless it decides to orange peel. If it does, you can usually still deal with, even with newish wheels. Just go light, use less or no water for a while, and let that puppy get hot! I think the jade I sent shouldn’t be terribly prone to orange peeling. For the most part, too, it stays together — the toughest material on earth, so it rarely shatters, unless you get a fracture that heard with gypsum — one of the weeniest minerals on earth. That’s what happened with the original cab of the second one. Generally, if you’re going to back-hand a cab off your workbench, make it the jade one.

I have a slice of BC Jade that I want to play with when I get more cabbing experience. Intimidation is a problem when one only has a single sample to work with (and maybe mess up). I have lots of amazonite collected locally, so perhaps I should slice some and start cabbing. Thanks for sharing the pitures of your cabs. It gives me the incentive to get to work.

Yep, I've found I'm less eager to try a new material if I don't have a backup. Luckily jade isn't opal or Tiffany stone, where you're buying rough by the gram, and any "oops" hurts.

Those are both lovely cabs, but the second is soooo dramatic!
