I was gifted a Thumbler ar 2, and was wondering if a different 6lb barrel could work on it?

I use Lortone and the 1.5 barrel fits on a 3 lb tumbler. The 6 fits on a 12. I have put a 3 with heavy silver onto a 12, but had to McGiver something to keep centred on the rollers. So in my opinion, if it fits then do it.

It should as I have a AR2 (2 actually) and an AR12 and other than a larger base (to accommodate the 12 Lb barrel) they are the same (motor pulley belt), The AR12 has 3 sets of notches for 12Lb barrels, 9 lb barrels, and 6 or 3 Lb barrels.

Does anyone out there by chance have one of these along with a 6lb barrel to be sure it fits before I purchase one?

I just went and checked my directions for the AR-12. I does not say anything about a 6 pound barrel, and I could not find a 6 lb barrel offered by Thumlers. I have an Ar2 also and no mention of a 6 lb barrel so if you can get me the dimensions of the 6 lb barrel I can measure it up and let you know.

Does anyone out there by chance have one of these along with a 6lb barrel to be sure it fits before I purchase one? I am assuming, perhaps wrongly, that you are wanting to use a 6lb. Lortone barrel as I do not believe a 6lb. Thumler's barrel exists. If that is the case I can take some pix this weekend and show you how it would look as we have a Thumler's AR-2 and a Lortone QT-66, let me know. At a very quick glance it looks like the shafts are very close for a barrel of that diameter. Not saying it wouldn't work you would just have to take into consideration where that barrel is going if it where to "jump the tracks". Al

I would be concerned about overloading the motor on the 3 pound tumbler

The motor on the AR-2 is the EXACT same one they use on the AR-12 (I have both machines) and it is a Fasco 1/15 HP BEAST- These are extremely duty motors (they use them on pellet stove blowers as they can stand EXTREME temps and very dirty environments). It could probably handle 15Lb barrels with easy. My motors running full load barely get above room temp (I used my infra red thermo scanner on them and they registered 62 degrees in a 59 degree room). They will handle the load.
