I posted a pic of the saddle I was purchasing in the photo thread. Posting again with more photos related to history of the saddle.
Did some research and am now on a quest.
The saddle was won in 1972 by the National High School Rodeo Queen, Andy Gibbs. She was from Colorado.
Found an article that the saddle won by the 1970 rodeo queen was stolen in 2017. She was quoted as saying how much it meant to her and that she was searching for it.
I hope that the saddle I purchased was not stolen. Will be contacting local Law Enforcement to see if they can help determine this.
Even if not stolen, I would like to see if the winner or any descendants would like the saddle. if not, I will keep and use it.
My initial intent has changed. Call me sentimental, but if anyone in my family would have won something like that, it would be considered a family heirloom.
Does anyone here have rodeo connections or belong to groups related to rodeo?
If you are willing to share my photos and related info, please PM me.
A good friend has nieces who live in CO and are involved with rodeos and everything horse there. They are also helping with this.
I do not think the person I purchased the saddle from knew what he had. I am concerned how quick he accepted a price of 66% of asking. That was for the saddle, saddle stand, heavy duty, padded saddle blanket, top of the line cinch. The price did not cover the used value of everything besides the saddle, so I got the saddle for free.
Doubt that he was involved in any wrong doing. He purchased the saddle a few years ago from someone in Shawano, WI.
His family is moving to TX in a few months. Their horses have already been temporarily moved to a relative's ranch in KS. He was selling a few leftover equine related items that were in his garage.
Just let me know if you could help in any way.
Thank you
