Morrisonite is too expensive for me and usually not very good. I got these small wedge shaped pieces and will try to hand cut some small slabs with the trim saw.

I know what ya mean. I look at some of the auctions and forsale posts at other sites and see a beautiful slab. Get all a twitter them see the price and crash hard. Of course I have always had a champagne taste on a beer budget. lol
Waiting to see what you create out of them.

I made the slabs. The one on the left is 10mm thick and the one in the middle is 9mm. I'll grind the edges square and then start taking them down. If something nice shows up the original face becomes the bottom, otherwise I'll use my 80 grit lap to flatten the cut side. I study the edges and the pattern on the original face has some depth so I can grind it down. Sometimes the color is shallow .

I picked the tops. I'll grind the bottoms with the 80 grit wheel and lap. Morrisonite fractures so I won't know if I'm successful until I grind the preforms and the domes.

The smaller one was already flat so I can start grinding. I took down the other side and got this: Nice enough pattern to flip and the other side has a partially healed fracture I can avoid. The smallest square shaped piece was too small and not much of a pattern, so I give up on that one.

I was aware of a vug bottom left on face, bottom right on the original face. I started grinding it gently but the vug was actually a fracture. I'll take it off the dop and create a new bottom. I'll lose about a third of the cab but the good stuff is on the top and the design will be better. I leave the top of girdle flared out grind it square after doming so the shape will be fine.
