I have a list of questions now that I have been tumbling for two months!
1. I have ocean jasper in 80 grit with those Polly plastics bead things (the plastic ones). Since that is a “soft” rock, should I expect to check it more frequently and move it through faster so I don’t break it all up?
2. When running the various stages for 6-8 weeks, do you run that nonstop, or check weekly to rinse and change to fresh grit of the same level?
3. I realllllllly want to find a block of blue goldstone and try that. I bought what I thought was a block, but it’s a really flat thing. I want to end with some bigger, round shiny blue sparkly things. I know it is technically glass, so my questions here are-where do I buy a “block”, and how do I break it to tumble it?
4. I do not understand “contamination” when using ceramic or plastic media from phase to phase. Does this mean I can reuse it, but only in the same level of grit it started in?
5. Is it normal to be considering selling a kidney to get 10 more tumblers so I can do all the rocks I have at one time?! I can’t stop buying rough rocks. I am mostly kidding about this one!!
Thanks everyone!

#1 Ocean Jasper should be ok without beads in course but yes I would check it more often. #2 I check every other week for all my stages (except burnish which I only run overnight). #3 No idea where to buy-in buy I would use a diamond saw to break it (more control over the finished piece). #4 Yes you can reuse in the same grit only, you will end up with separate fillers for each grit (I don't use any in course, and only use 120/220 fillers on very soft material) 5# I have the ability to run 6 barrels all at once but rarely do it as course grind takes a long time and I run out of coursed out rocks! My setup is a AR-12 running course all the time, 2 AR-2 and a Model T I have 2 barrels for each stage so I have the flexibility to mix and match. Save your Kidneys- your gonna need them.

Darcy, I'm really new to tumbling too, so I'll acquiesce to stefan's answers...but I will say your question #5 made me laugh out loud...and something I too have considered! LOL
