Just finished cutting this Cold Mountain Thunderegg. I love the colors but I'm wondering what to with the slabs that have holes (for lack of a better term). Do I cut around them or can they be left as part of a cab? And I'm guessing that this is pretty common? Anyway, I'm hoping to get a few nice cabs... Thanks!

Why wouldn't you be able to make a cab out of it? I would consider it to be similar to the "undercutting" that was brought up in the other thread. It would give that particular cab "character". I am always looking for pieces that have druzy pockets (vugs) because I think it's something "different" than the norm. I had a pet wood one recently, and I've got some Lagua Lace with druzy pockets, which I haven't done yet...but will! Like Bob Ross says, "It's your world...do it how you want." Edit - That second slab is going to make a gorgeous cab!

I agree. Feel they add character to a finished cab.

I'll give it a shot and see what happens! Yeah, that second one was the best of the bunch... Thanks Jason.

Agreed, leave them in. I really like that last slab, too. That's gonna make an awesome cab!

The only one I probably wouldn't mess with is the slab in the 4th picture. That one seems to have the largest hole, but there also appears to be some turtleback on the bottom half of that slab under the hole. That one would make just a cool specimen.

It does, and I saw that turtleback...just kidding, I have no idea what that is!

Mike, incorporate the imperfections into the cab.... I have done a few like that, they came out great, but it does take time.... You can do it..

The people here are too nice. Any other forum and they would have told you the rocks were hopeless and "give them to me". I bet you get some nice cabs from these beautiful slabs. I'd be tempted to keep the one with the large hole whole. Just polish it up and put onto a shelf. Have fun playing with your rocks.
