"They tumbled calcite and failed?" "…They tumbled calcite and died." Learned a good bit from this tumble so it was not all in vain. There was one piece with a flat (cut?) side that actually had a mirror shine right around the edge, so I know it's possible. I think I didn't give these enough time in 500 & 1k AO, given how tight I had the barrel packed with small media. If I get a hankering I may revisit these, but for now I want to try to fix my last labradorite tumble.

I love seeing wins, but learn more from fails. I could never get a decent shine on calcite.

Calcite is a fragile mineral..... I have never tumbled that material at all...

For some stupid reason I think you need to to hand finish calcite with something like ZAM or some kind of rouge (probably not red). I wonder if Cerium oxide would work? Not a bad attempt

I'm assuming you start carrots at 220? I'm sure doing things by hand or trying trickery like dry tumbling could work, but I see results like this and I think it's just a matter of needing to dial things in correctly. If these were a bit more… convincing, I might give 'em more of a go, but at this point I'd rather open up the 3lb barrel for trying an easy material like labradorite again
