KD the dremel would be easier, but in my experience, the dremel takes WAAAAAAAAAAY too long - the grinder is much faster IMHO

Tweet- they are still kicking around somewhere??? I finished a Sodalite Cross but I lost it - I have been sorting thru the drawer of slabs and kinda trying to put order to the stuff (I swear the stuff multiplies when I'm not looking) And I'm pretty sure these are in the Drawer somewhere- Hmmm I should take pictures of my new shop mess- But I've been so busy with different projects that organizing the stuff just ain't happening!

lol, thanks Xena. i keep quite a few for myself one way or another. i tell myself they are good advertising to wear My Own Creations, but to be quite honest, there are some that i just can't part with. for gifts or for sale. somewhere in me there is a bit of Bower Bird or Crow that needs that pretty shiny....

Love them KD. I may try my first heart. How thick a slab did you use for your heart and is it all done on the grinder? I just cut a slab of Antelope Jasper I got from Banjo. I cut one 1/4 " and one 5/16". Which one do you think I should use for the heart? Thanks, Trish

this was probably even a little thinner than 1/4", maybe closer to 3/16", but i'm sure you can get 1/4" to work for you. apart from trimming the shape on the trim saw, it was all done on the Genie. using the wheel edges was a whole new experience for me and i dropped the piece repeatedly, almost grinding off the tip of my nose in the process. lol.
good luck!

KD, I've been grinding my middle finger nail bed! It's the only one that gets damaged (so far) I'm thinking of putting a band-aid on it next time so I don't grind it down so much (my fingers look a lot like my dad's hands - who works in his shop all day...) not good!

ahhh, you should try to explore the wonderful world of dop sticks and hot wax, your nail beds will be safe and your fingerprints erased. Imhotep's Fury get there yet, Tweet?

Ok, somewhere I saw this little leather finger glove for using when grinding stones. If I remember I'll post a link, might have been rock shed, that's the only place I've been recently.

KD I have used the dop sticks and really love them but not for the shaping part, I find I need to get my fingers to really feel the stone (be one with the stone) I find the dop sticks inhibit my movements on the grindstone and I can,t always get the stone up to the stone like I want. Besides it takes forever for that stuff to harden & I can't work both sides of the stone at once with a dop stick. and Yeah I already erased my fingerprints with that stuff!
Imhotep's Fury has not arrived yet - it must have gone around the country like Stefan's package before it gets to me - will let you know when it arrives.

Great job KD! On the third stone, did you ever get an Id on it? Being a couple states over to your left it looks like Kona Domolite that is found in Michigans UP. I have a few big chunks in my shop, I will see if I can get a pic so you can see if it started out looking like that before you made it shine!!

Lookin' good KD. The top part of the heart is a pain to shape and polish, kind of like shaping tropical fish, but it came out nice. When I made the heart(wife's valentine gift) I kept the sides more vertical and that made it a little easier to get into the center of the "V", but it was still a pain.
