My slabbing frequently goes wrong. I had a 1 pound piece of Morrisonite and made two slabs. The first one had good thickness and made 3 cabs. This one was around 11mm and it would be a waste to make cabs from it. I decided to split it even though I can screw up the splits. The pattern on the reverse side had more design opportunities so I cut the slab below where I marked the pear. I ground the cut piece to 280 soft so I could mark a clean line. I rotated the preform around the line and then pushed through. I wanted the pear to be a little thicker and ended up with 6.3mm for the pear and 5.2mm for the other. I surprisingly was able to cut straight and smooth. I also trimmed a rhodochrosite a marginal Blue Mountain and a pair of Dead Ringer earrings.

Looking forward to seeing future posts to see how this goes. Is that a rhodochrosite piece in the lower right?

Since the Rhodochrosite is soft, I skipped an arbor and a wheel. Dopped first and finished first.
