I am fairly new to the forum and really new to making cabochons, so I looking to see what you think of some of my first cabs. I am using self collected pieces to practice on and improve my technique. Love looking at all the wonderful cabs that are posted on this page and just wanted to share. Please feel free to add practices that I could use to get better. I see my transitions on sharp corners could use some more work, so any tips would be helpful. Also I need to work on my photography skills. Thanks in advance and have a awesome day. Scott I think your 1st and last one are great! The 1st stone is a very unique look with the clear and non-clear stripe across the side. Nice capture I think. For being newer, looking good!

Some very nice material, and your cabbing skills look to be great. I really like the shaping on the third stone, and the dome on that first stone is very cool almost half a marble! The second stone seemed to be a little off but it may have been an undercut area you tried to save (been there done that!) The last stone has a very pleasing roundness to a triangle! I love rounding off corners like that. I find myself fearing sharp corners as I have wasted more than my fair share of belts with too sharp corners.

Whoa! I think you did a real good job for your first cabs. Lots of variety in shapes, so I can see you are stretching your wings. Nice material, too. Lucky you. No rocks here. The third is really nice. Judging by these pictures (which are also very good, BTW) I don't think I have anything critical to say. Keep up the good work!
Can you enter that high dome cab in the contest? (The first one.)

Hey Scott! These are really good for some of your first cabs. Numbers one and three are absolutely fantastic!!! I agree with Tela about entering that 1st one in the contest.

Great job on those cabs! You obviously have a talent for this. Your pictures are also really good. Way better than I can ever do with a camera.

Your cabs look great! They certainly don't look like a beginner's work, that's for sure. I like high domes.

Very nice cabs. I also think that first one is perfect for the contest.
