Here's one I started last night- there's some more grinding to do, you can see a little crevice in the middle. But I do like the way it's turning out so far. And yeah, I post too many pictures... Thanks for looking.

I like how that is shaping up, Mike! The pink on the side adds a nice splash of color.
And I don’t think there is such a thing as too many pictures. I enjoy seeing what people are working on and the progress they are making.

Sometimes I go way overboard, though. Slab, preform, finished cab, wrap...I think it's because I like seeing progress, too, not just the finished products.

Miket, would you list your method for getting such a nice shape and polish on your stones. How long does it normally take you from start to finish on a piece?

Although it may not be the best method (and it's pretty basic), it works for me right now. And will probably drive some people that do it the right way nuts!
I cut out the preforms on the tile saw first, then finish the outside shape with tire burrs for the dremel. manofglass traded me some 36 grit burrs for some other burrs that I wasn't going to use and they make pretty quick work of it.
Next I start grinding the girdle around the entire cab and then usually work from the middle of the cab to the edges to try and get a dome.
After I get the basic cab shape that I'm wanting I've been taking a different tire burr that's been used quite a bit and go over the entire cab to help remove the scratches left by the 36 grit burr.
Oh, and I dip the cab in water while I'm grinding.
Depending on the material I'm working with, this usually takes me anywhere from an hour to two hours or so per cab.
Then it's into the vibe with the other cabs I've made, along with rocks I've been tumbling, for about six days or so.
Like I said, it's not the easiest way or the best way but I've been able to achieve decent results!

Way to whip this rock into shape Mike! I like how you kept the two accent "matrix" spots on the sides of this one! You started posting pics of these, so it got my interest in the material back up! LOL - I dopped a couple Cold Mountain Thunderegg preforms the other night and they're sitting there waiting in the "batter box" right now...

I've had several cabs blow up on me during the grinding...
