I just wanted to share my summer accomplishment, my veggie garden. I have Okra, two types of cherry tomatoes, big boy tomatoes, yellow crook neck squash and two kinds of peppers. My okra forrest Half of my garden, other half is along the fence, tomatoes. Tomato plants, my dad was helping me harvest. This was just 2 very small sqush plants when I started. My big boy tomatoes are averaging the size of my palm and bigger. Tami

Talk about a green thumb. Do you talk to your plants and whisper sweet words of encouragement?

I love gardening! Way too cold in my part of the world to grow okra though . You certainly do a great job with it where you are though!

Great garden! I'm glad to hear you got good tomatoes. Mine were the worst in 20years Lot's of zucchini and some great melons didn't really make up for it. Trade you some zucchini (and recipies) for some tomatoes!! joe

Well for my two basic secrets on my garden was 1 bag of that new Miracle Gardening Soil per row and one across the back row for the tomatoes, the second secret is a drip system with 2 to 3 drip tubes running down each row and around the tomatoes. When it needed it I weeded it and pretty much let nature take it course. I cut the okra about every 2 to 3 days, I have already frozen 8 quarts of okra that has been cut and rolled in cornmeal, and I think I harvested another 2 quarts worth today. Phoenix, there is a possibility that you just haven't had squashed cooked right to appreciate it. I do one of two recipes with squash the favorite is sauteing it in butter just until it starts turning a little brown turn it over and once the other side is done you put it on a plate (without paper towels) and sprinkle it with salt, pepper and a little sugar. The other recipe is to dip it in a tempura batter that is made out of one can of Fresca soda pop, salt cornstarch and flour, then deep fry it in vegetal oil. My okra has always done well, it is now so tall the the next time I harvest I might have to get a step stool. One thing about okra once it starts producing the more you cut the more it produces and the taller it gets. Not only does the main stalk produce okra but many of the branches will produce as well so you can get double or triple the produce from one plant. The only way we like okra is to have it rolled in cornmeal and fried in vegetable oil, and lightly salted immediately out of the oil. Krazydiamond with the smallness of my garden it really doesn't take alot of time to take care of, it took a couple of hours to till it all up with my mantis tiller, a couple of more hours to work the Miracle Grow in and about half a day to plant all of the tomato, squash, pepper plants and seads, I also tried to grow some spinach, but I planted it too late to get very much out of it. Sorry Joe not this year, it has started getting cooler and I don't think they will be producing much more. Tami

That is some tall okra!
Squash (the winter type) can be used in place of pumpkin .. think along the lines of pumpkin pie, pumpkin bars, pumpkin cheesecake. Surely that sounds okay Phoenix?
