I've done a bit more playing around with my new Canon camera. Awhile back I tumbled some Botswana chips from Green's Lapidary. Colourful things, but tiny. I include this pic from my old camera with a quarter in there for scale to show their true size: Here's a few images from the new camera. These were taken not at closest focus, but near there, and then were cropped with software to enlarge them, but again not quite all the way to the maximum. And here's the same kind of deal on some Brazilian agate, though I didn't have to get nearly as close as these stones are much larger to begin with: This is about as close as I can get, using both the super macro feature on the camera, plus digitally enlarging part of the image. I needed a flat surface so that I didn't have to deal with the fact that there is almost zero depth of field up this close. This isn't a sweater, this is the fabric of my t-shirt. Cool. And now for something completely different, I saw Tami's great garden pics today, and thought I would add a few of my own, taken earlier today (the pumpkins were taken a few days ago). Very busy with harvest now, as frost in threatening in this part of the world... down to 0.9 C (33.6 F) the other night. That's all!

Excellent pics. I'll bet a close up of a piece of freshly broken rock would be cool. I'm getting serious garden envy now. Joe

great pics! what is the thing in front of your garden that looks like a huge petrified wood sundial?

Kim, If that were a petrified wood sundial I would surely have smashed it up and tumbled it by now ;D. You are right, it kind of looks like one, but it's really a brick firepit, and the "dial" is a half-burned fire-pokin' stick laying on the fire grate. I like the sundial idea though, hmmm.....

Really nice Agates, and the shine as well as the photos are both brilliant. That camera does a super job, I can't say I've seen one that does any better than that! Outstanding, and the garden is quite a contrast to my desert area here in Arizona. Thanks for posting!
