I have had a piece of stone since the late 60's that my uncle sent me when he was in Vietnam. He'd actually sent me two stones, one was a more a traditional green jade color (and i'd had that one made into a pendant when i was still in high school)...but this piece, hmmm, i don't know why i didn't do anything with it before, but i always kept it. so i finally got up the nerve to try and cab it myself and, Lo and Behold, it has an inner flash almost like Labrodite, so now i have no clue of what this material might actually be. it was on the soft side, but took a nice shine, any help ID-ing this would be appreciated: and here it is with a few of my latest: the vietnamese cab is 14 x 10mm and the other two (mex lace and tiger eye) are 30 x 22mm. thanks for looking! KD

looks like Jade to me KD. Don't some Jade pieces have a sort of an inner flash? Ruling out Jade... Could it be red & green Beryl (emerald)? But that wouldn't make sense seeing that it's soft. Sorry I can't be more helpful
Love that crazy lace pendant

Hmmm I'm thinking some kind of feldspar for sure- I'm thinking that if it's soft it ain't jade (usually pretty hard right?) Not sure what Vietnam is famous for

Beautiful pendants KD. I just checked on the 6 coloured jade I saw in Singapore. That has a very high shine and is darker looking. So I don't think it is jade.

WOW! Really nice work on those cabs!!! Who cares what it is, it looks great & that's what "really" matters isn't it??? I have been itching to make some Quartz crystal point necklaces & I have a small collection of suitable points of various sizes & my plan is to incorporate the new Black-light LED technology to create a hazy purple glowing pendant that messes with your head due to the high refractive index of quartz & the high refractivity of short wavelengths of light. This will cause your eye to have to focus closer than normal on the crystal when it is lit & creates a purple halo around the crystal when seen from further away. As soon as I finish my first one I will attempt to capture the effect on camera & post a photo up for everyone to oggle at...
