This may be a strange question, but is there a minimum or maximum temp that you can run your tumbler in? The reason I ask is because I got my tumbler (Thumler's Model B) in February and put it in an unheated shed. It did great even during below freezing temps, but that shed really heats up in the summer, easily getting above 100 degrees F in the heat of the summer. Should I move it?

I run my 3 Model B's in the garage during the Summer and have measured in-garage temps as high as 95 degrees and never had any issues. I am in the Houston area. I would make sure that the tumblers have a decent bit of air space around them.

HankRocks , oh that's awesome! I didn't want to move it because I have more room to make a mess in the shed!

Thumler's motors are thermally protected so they shutdown before burning up. My Pellet stove uses Fasco motors (the exact same ones!) on the blower and exhaust fans. The stove easily reaches 250 to 300 degrees in the enclosure and I have never had one go bad.

I have the same concern, specifically a hot garage, but will be using a Lortone 33B. Anybody know how they do @ ~95Β° in a garage?

I think you'll be fine running it in the heat. Mine runs in the garage through the summer here in Washington state, and it gets pretty hot here.

I run a Lortone 45C and a Lot-O in the garage through the summer in southern Arizona with no issues.

I installed two solar powered roof vents near the peak in my garage. They have a built in fan with a thermal switch, that turn on when hot inside. They are quiet and work like a charm. It used to get really hot in there.

perkins17 Ha, you must be in Eastern Washington!! No way Western Washington gets hot long enough to be an issue. π Do you remove the motor's cover plate for additional ventilation in the summer?

Yup, Spokane! It gets real hot up here. I did remove the plate last year but I think it'll be fine being left on.

jamesp Good to know! What tumbler do you have? Homemade tumblers. one is a large unit that has 2 sets of shafts. A fast set for rough grind and a slow set for finish steps. The 2 speeds work real well.
