I usually send my scrap into Rio, but I see they are now charging a 50.00 processing fee. YIKES!
Do any of you use anyone else and do they charge a fee?
I have about a pound to send in.
Thanks!

Wish I could help you out, but I've never sent any of my scrap in. I still have it all. One of these days I'm going to use some of it and do some broom casting or sand casting. I also use it to make little balls for decorations.
Unless someone pops in with another place to send it to, you could check with some local jewelers and see if they buy scrap. I have no idea what the going price for scrap is now, but $50 processing fee Rio is charging is outrageous.
Is all your scrap clean (no solder)?

No solder. Some is dirty where I was playing with etching, but I think I can burn it off. I keep some scrap for balls, head pins, earwires, etc. It's mostly wire, but a little sheet. Before I send it in, I'm gonna go on a scrap hunt and find a few more ounces. LOL!
I was looking online at places. There's quite a few places that will do it. I just don't know how reputable some are. I was hoping that a place that sells wire would do it other than Rio.

I thought there was a discussion on here about that but it might of been FB
Any scrap I have will be used for casting whenever I learn how to do that

You could look into Hoover and Strong if you have a business license. They are wholesale only. They've been around a long time and they are located in VA. They also will let you use your refining proceeds to buy product.

I've used Hoover & Strong in the past, but they dropped me last year because I didn't buy enough. I haven't bothered to reopen my account because I have enough metal.
You might take a look at metal refiners. We have friends who own an antique business and he handles the precious metals. He's connected to all of the estate sale businesses where they live, and they call him to come and purchase any silver and gold. He's used a couple of precious metal refiners to convert his purchases to cash. The one that he says yields the best payout is this one:
Here are a couple of other companies you might look into:

Thank you! I'll look into these. I'm not adverse to a refinery or local shop. I'm just so used to sending it to Rio for store credit.

I think that Thunderbird Supply still buys scrap silver. I haven't purchased any precious metals for a few years now but when I did I preferred doing business with Thunderbird over Rio for purchasing sheet and casting silver.

I just went to their website and couldn't find anything about buying scrap. Nice place to browse, though. I'll have to remember them.

Saw today if you spend 4000.00 with them in a year you get to be RioPro and they wave recycle fee. I was going to make a joke about women and shoe sales but since we don't know each other that well yet (and I don't want to get cut) I'll let it alone

There was a time in my life when I couldn't resist a shoe sale, but now I try to stay barefooted.
I have never spent 4000 at rio in a year. Now, I am not even selling anymore, so I KNOW that wouldn't happen. Pretty crappy on their part to charge a fee like that.

Wow, a $50 fee through Rio now, that's terrible. I used to send all my scrap to Rio Grande for credit but haven't been wrapping lately so don't have much scrap to send in plus I don't need a lot of wire. Glad you posted about this, saves me time looking into the topic myself when I do get back to wrapping and or buying wire. I'm going to check out Thunderbird now.

I just have to compare wire prices. Yeah, a 50 flat fee is too much!
