I finally got a new phone, and this time around, the camera was one of the primary concerns. The polished face on the opal is about 50 x 18mm I left them at full resolution, sorry if they are too big IMG_20210426_194805 by nik1924, on Flickr IMG_20210426_194827 by nik1924, on Flickr

Okay...you gotta fess up what phone you got! Those pics are amazingly good for a phone camera...I want to upgrade my phone as I prefer to take pics with my phone rather than an entire camera setup. Gorgeous opal to boot!

Holy moley, that is one stunning piece of Koroit!
I'd say your new phone has a pretty good camera.

I'm impressed by the broad range of color that your camera captured in the opal's fire. Would you say that the fire in these photos is a good match with what your eyes see?

I cheated and looked at the camera info because that is so impressive! It looks like that is one of those joint products that lives up to the name! The colors are spectacular!

Thanks everybody, The phone is a OnePlus 9, The pictures were taken with stock settings, in macro mode, with a cheap led to brighten the room. I'd say the color is fairly close to what I see, but the light I was using seems to wash out the red-orange end of the spectrum.

Gorgeous opal to boot! Jason, this phone worked great for me and the payment plan was an easy "pay as you go" plan. Just drop a quarter in the slot when you wanted to use it.

LOL I'm old enough to remember when the call was LESS than a quarter! LOL - I used to tell people my "old" cell phone was a quarter taped to the inside of my backpack...only to be used for "emergencies" at the time! That was back in the day when there was a payphone on just about every corner! Ahhh...the good old days...

ten cent pay phone, you called the house and if no one was home your tried again later. We had 4 channels on TV. you had to be in the house by the time the street lights came on. No seatbelts, and if you were really good on the ride home you might get ice cream at Anderson's soft custard! (I loved when the flavor of the day was cinnamon). You stopped to get gas and the gas jockey pumped the gas, checked the oil, AND washed the windshield! Oh and search lights at the car dealership. Man I loved riding around watching those lights, hoping against hope we would get close enough to see where they came from.

I started reading reviews of this handset. Very impressive: "The OnePlus 9 has a triple rear camera setup, though you’ll probably only realize that you’re using two of them. The 48MP main camera and 50MP ultra-wide camera are what you’ll use most, while the 2MP monochrome sensor helps with low-light photography, and with black-and-white photos if you set the correct filter...[the]improved color reproduction is evident in images taken with both rear cameras, the 48MP main and 50MP ultra-wide. The latter camera also packs an extra surprise: a specialty macro mode that captures up-close photos that are easily better than those shot on other phones with designated macro lenses, including the OnePlus 8T. It also comes with a freeforming lens, which OnePlus claims corrects barrel distortion – the warping at the sides of images from some ultra-wide cameras – down to 1%, and it appears to work, as we didn’t notice any distortion." www.techradar.com/reviews/oneplus-9-reviewWish my carrier supported this!

Just for fun, I pulled another opal out of the riker mount, just to see if the first pictures were flukes. IMG_20210428_205238 by nik1924, on Flickr this one is much smaller, 18x9mm. I never noticed the fracture in it until seeing it at this magnification
