Ok- I finally caved and created a cloudinary account- though I still am learning it (holy moly it’s not very user friendly!) ANYhoo...here is a pic I took of my quartz/quartz mix that I’ve rockhounded locally (lots of blue quartz!) and polished. I have tons of ideas on how to utilize these beauties, but man-I sure do likes looking and petting them...😍 Here are some blue quartz rough after a bath in Iron Out

If only bead drilling wasn't so time intensive doing one at a time. I've seen the How It's Made of stone beads, and there's like... no way to compete with that with a dremel/drill press.

“Local” is Northern Virginia, Wooferhound stefan . I believe blue quartz may be found in the Blue Ridge Province, which runs from PA to GA. We just had our house built and, during construction, I noticed all the blue quartz being dug up. I had never seen blue quartz before! There isn’t much info on it online and I’ve not seen many pics that look like what I’ve been finding. It’s supposedly pretty rare (though my husband doesn’t believe it based on my stockpile 😂) but I think that people just don’t know what to look for, or don’t know what they’re looking at. It is only in massive form (though, per mindat, blue quartz crystals have been found in Spain and Brazil.) The “blue quartz” rough that is sold on the different rock sites definitely doesn’t look like what I have, but methinks that they’re selling Dumortierite as “blue quartz.” I may be wrong, though. Since I initially found it (literally!) under my house, I started collecting it and slabbing the larger stones to create a backsplash for my kitchen, jasoninsd . However, now that I’ve also tumbled many stones, I’m also going to use them to make a river table (with raw edged wood and resin/epoxy) for our dining room, as well. I’m also learning how to cab, so I will be wire wrapping and (hopefully) silversmithing soon, as well. 😊 I started cabbing one stone and....well let’s just say it’s now a roundish marble. 😂 However, I do intend on drilling it, Benathema , so crossing fingers it works! In addition to the blue quartz, there’s lot’s of grey (some smokey), milky white, yellow, orange, and red (even hematoid) quartz around here. I think some of the grey is really light blue b/c the stones look bluish when wet. I love the purple ones, though they aren’t amethyst- just blue quartz with lots of iron inclusions! And they all take a beautiful shine 🥰 (I usually tumble them in the rotary first, but I’ve done a few in the Lot-o alone just to keep their natural shape, as well.) I just took a video of a small sample of some slabs and polished stones for y’all to see the variation (due to different inclusions) of the lovely blue quartz. (I had to cut it into 3 different vids b/c of the size limitations 😒) You can hear my (newly fixed!) Lot-o in the background. *NOTE: for whatever reason the videos were uploaded in the wrong order. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Watch them in this order: 2nd, 1st, 3rd.

I love hearing that you're doing a backsplash with the slabs! How cool is that going to be!?!? My wife and I have been talking about doing a table just like you're talking about! We've got tons of Prairie Agates that we collect. We're constantly talking about what the heck we're going to do with all of them. ps...your videos aren't showing up for me...

AQuartzLow I too look forward to seeing that river table! It sounds amazing! And jasoninsd I’ll happily take some of those Prairie Agates off your hands if you’d want! 😁

It automatically embeds the video here when you cut and paste the share link.

That at least brings up the link, so I was able to follow the link that way. With my phone though, it actually downloaded the video...but I was able to see them.
