Since it is official, I can share this exciting news. Have been working with the local arts group for over 9 months on this. They put out a call for potential locations and artists for murals around the County. My barn was selected as a location. Artists submitted mural design ideas, specific to a location. In the end, the mural to be painted on my barn did not have a location attached to it. The arts group thought my barn would be perfect. It is in a high traffic area. It is the largest, historic barn in the County, built in 1902. In the 1950's, the roof was raised about 25'. Almost all of the original features in the barn loft remain. These include the hay hooks and system to move them, ladders that were attached to the walls and ceiling, chutes to throw hay bales to the main floor, and an interesting way of getting items from loft into the silo and more. This small area contains some ladders, some chutes and I have never seen anything like it before. The mural area is 56' long by 14' high. The arts group considers this mural to be the crown jewel of the project. The artist is Native American, which is a perfect fit with me. His Aunt will also be contributing to the project. She is a former Poet Laureate of Wisconsin. She authored a poem to go with the mural. Here is a photo of the barn and the mural. The mural will not contain the wording The Seven Sisters. I just included that to help others understand the meaning behind the mural. Note, that the barn had a mural on it in 2020, related to the Presidential election. Hence there is a partial mural remaining. I will be updating this thread throughout the process.

This will be an amazing thread to see and have progress updates! I love to see murals of this size...and what an amazing "canvas" for the artist(s)! I have always loved seeing the many amazing barn murals in WI. When purchasing this property I thought what a perfect barn for a mural. Many artists are not up for painting on a 100+ year old barn. Some prefer concrete/brick walls of buildings. It takes a special artist to paint on 100+ year old barn boards. Another thing for this barn. It is under consideration as a Wisconsin Historical Building! Any murals would not prevent this from happening. Little did I know the significance of this barn when purchasing the property. All I knew was that it had 7' ceilings on the lower level that would accommodate my 6'5" Son in Law. 7' ceilings is unheard of for a barn from this era. I had to forgo many properties that had 6' ceilings in the barn. The ability of my son in Law to come in the barn was a must. That it had 5 stalls, a bird coup, two tack rooms, access from the upper level for throwing hay bales down to main level. The local Historical Society had been trying to get into this barn for over 25 years. Previous owners would not let them in. I welcomed them. They took many photos and let me know many things about the barn. Never knew what purchasing this property would lead to, but I had a feeling it would be great things.

What are the seven sisters? Here we just have the three sisters -- corn, beans, and squash.

Congrates! Is your barn still an active farm? I love barns (the older the better).

Congrates! Is your barn still an active farm? I love barns (the older the better). Active, as in a rent about 15 acres of pasture/fields. Several 4-H/FFA youth have cattle there. I have a couple large chicken coops with electricity in them. Hope to get more chickens soon. I love barns, too. Had lots of fun during my property search investigating barns.

Ha Ha!
My chicken coops are large. Have several electric outlets each and lights.
I have observed electric chickens when there was low humidity. I would touch them and sparks would fly.

All needed approvals/permits have been granted for the mural. Will be meeting with the sponsoring organization Director and artist on Friday at the barn. Very exciting times.

I can't wait to see the project pics. In my head I see this giant "paint by numbers" kind of thing happening for a project this size. I'm sure that's oversimplifying the process a bit...but that's kind of what I'm imagining.
