Work has been busy and fishing has been great so haven't had much time the last few months to do much of anything with rocks. But the heavy rains that came this weekend canceled fishing and yardwork plans and afforded me some much needed rock therapy time and I competed these 4 cabs. All but one were collected from the gravel of san Jacinto river. Without further ado- River gravel poppy - Was a bit disappointed in the polish of this one. It's got a polish but there is sort of a haze over the entire cab. Tried going all the way back to 280 but came out the same. Also, the color is a bit overexposed in the pic. River gravel petrified wood- Really love all the intricate details in this material. There are some soft spots in the yellow area that undercut but not very noticeable imo. I didn't cut it to be oriented this way but liked it better than what I had originally planned. I see a River with really dark and choppy water cutting through the land. Unknown - Think this came from a random box from markymark. Love the vibrancy of the red but other pieces of this material I've worked had problems with pitting in the deep red areas. Fortunately this one didn't develop any. And my personal favorite of the group, River gravel confetti agate(my made up name for it). This particular rock was a nice surprise when I cut it open bc the outer rind was a bland Grey with just a few red dots poking out the surface. Looking at the picture now it looks like I need to tough up the upper right edge a bit. Anyways, it was nice to get back on the grind a bit. Hope you enjoyed and thanks for looking!

I like them all. Love the depth in the Poppy. Thanks fernwood! Just wish i could get better polish on the poppy. The whole rock was as solid as any I've ever found. Not a single fracture throughout the entire piece. And that's saying something for a piece of river gravel that came here from who knows where. But have cpl more slices to play with and try for better finish.

Jeepers, there's some nice cabs in this group...say, about four great ones! I love that Confetti agate (good name!), but that river gravel petrified wood steals the show for me! That one is a stunner for sure...and I DO see the river running through it!

I need to come find some of your river gravel... They're all great, but I think I'm picking the wood as my favorite also. I've had zero time lately for rock therapy and I think it's way overdue!
Anyway, fantastic group, thanks for sharing sir!

I often see scenes within rocks that others don't so I'm glad you see it too! I've got another cab of the same wood that I'm hoping to complete tonight that I'd be curious to see if you can see what I see. When I finish it il post it and tag you on it. Its a bit odd what I see but I see it clearly nonetheless.

Beautiful cabs! Hard to pick a favorite out of those 4, but the Confetti Agate does it for me. Looks like a party going on in that cab!

Wow! Those are some beautiful cabs of some gorgeous material. I've tumbled a bunch of San Jacinto gravel, but it's been awhile and I forgot how varied the mix is. More, please!
