Finally finished a batch of Arizona petrified wood, a mix of bought and found material. Overall, I'm quite happy with the results. Here's the recipe: 1. 5 weeks 60/90 2. 1 week 120/220 3. 1 week 500F 4. 10 days AO polish Here's the whole batch: And here's a closeup of a few of the bigger/nicer stones:

Beautiful colour and great agatised pieces. Lovely shine and all.
You do not mention the burnishing part of the operation. I just wondered if you would get an even higher gloss on your load. If I were you I would try it, as an extra bit of fun.

Love that Arizona Pet wood! One of my favorites to tumble too. Hard though, the grind does take a long time. I tumble in Cascade dishwasher detergent for my burnish stage, seems to really clean and shine up the rock real fine.

Thanks for the enthusiastic comments. I left out the burnish step from my first post, but a 1-3 day burnish is standard practice for me. Actually, they looked really good coming straight out of polish, but I did the burnish anyway. I used about a teaspoon of laundry detergent.
Another thing I normally do is a one-day cleaning (using laundry detergent) before the polish stage, just to make sure there's no grit carry-over. Not sure if it's really necessary, but it doesn't hurt.
As sabre52 pointed out, this material is TOUGH! My next batch will be rose quartz, it's just about done with its first week of 60/90.
