Hi, i am trying to be more descriptive, and tell some facts about the material i post, instead of just the post pictures like (the old) me. Several years ago i was fishing at my favorite spot, the fish were not biting,so i went around looking for shiny rocks,i found a big blue and gold one and put it in my back pack. upon returning home i through it in my front yard, with all the rest of the stuff(animal bones, skulls, antlers, cool dead logs) A few years later i met another cat named Paul,he had a slab saw,and i asked him to cut some of my yard rocks. He took them home ,several days later dropped them off with my wife while i was at work, all of them were neat, but one stood out considerably. Not recognizing in any pics i could find on line or anywhere, nothing even close. There is another forum on the web, Lapidary forum.net, that i joined to do research,i learned a lot of things through the kindness of their members.Soon was introduced to longtime RTH member@CaptBob who then pointed me in the direction of this forum, and sure enough, after one pic,the rock was identified by the all knowing Sabre52 (mel). That was 2017,soon after,i bought a saw, some wheels, and now my yard looks like the bottom half of an avalache. This is a fun place, lots of cool folks from all over. Here is the material i collected yesterday(a few cabs of it) kind of rough around the edges, Magnesite from the fishing spot. anybody wants to go? send me a message. Paul, they're gorgeous! I was just looking at Magnesite rough last night...and I don't think any of it would've looked like this. The looks of these cabs remind me of some of the Cold Mountain Thunderegg I've cabbed...kind of.

How big are the fish? Beautiful cabs, I can’t say that rock is on my radar. Hey I know a guy who talked with you about finding poppy jasper before you were hip to that. The Bass get up to 8lbs, The boulders are 300lbs..plus the whole side of a cliff. Tell the “guy” i said hi,

I like the story and I'm sure you have a bunch of them. So.... this was the rock that started it all?

The material and cabs themselves are beautiful. The only Magnesite I have actually worked with is the grey/white that looks like marble, really soft 4-5, though it shined up pretty nice.

I have some Anderson material too and would love to work it someday. I'm a beginner though having worked four cabs. Do you have any advice? I imagine the magnesite would be soft and would need to be stabilized?

I imagine the magnesite would be soft and would need to be stabilized? Hmmm.. The Magnesite from Anderson, At least the stuff i have collected? Is set in agate/ chalcedony/ or maybe Agatized Serpentine( plasma Agate) So for the most part, is very sturdy.. 5.5/ -7 on the mohs The nominally white Magnesite itself Is tinted orange/ gold by the mixture Confluence of other minerals. Of course this is all pure speculation On my part. But an educated guess for sure. Let me know if you need some Pointers on what not to do, If you collect rocks from around the lake? You can’t be too far from my house? Come on by and grind a few Paul

The third one down looks like your best bet
avoid the pits if you can,
the bigger slab you get,the more room you have to move. 4 years ago? i was right where you are with the tile saw.
