Been tumbling mixed rocks for about 2 months now. Pull them out of the QT6 and move them to stage 2 in the 33B once I have enough to fill a barrel. I had been just putting the rocks coming out of stage 1 in a Tupperware container and just guessing if it was enough to fill a 3 lb barrel. I'd pour them in to check and if not, I'd pour them back out into the Tupperware. I decided to be a little more "scientific" about it, so I measured the volume of the 3 lb barrel as being almost exactly 3 cups. So if I want to fill it 2/3 full, I need 2 cups of rocks. Well, 2 cups is a pint, and I just happen to have a whole bunch of empty 1 pint gelato cups that my wife had picked up from a "buy nothing" Facebook group she's in. We got them for storing small things like nails, screws, hooks, etc. So I got a few and prefilled the bottom with ceramic. Now all I have to do is fill it to the very top with rocks and then I'm good to go. I should even be able to use this to precisely get the water where I want it, since I can pour the water into the clear container and then just empty the whole thing into my barrel. This also lets me sort rocks as I go and when I have an empty 3 lb barrel ready, I just grab one of these and dump it in. Everything is pre-measured.

Okay, this is just plain genius! What a great idea. Seriously, way to go!

I love our local "buy nothing" site! I got some deer antlers off of there. Probably 20 sets! No idea what I am going to do with them, but still cool. Love your idea of using (reusing) jars. I use yogurt containers (2 full ones equal 1- 3 Lb barrel).

I’m with Jason on this one! That is a great idea!
Visualizing the right level is tough in those barrels and I usually let the kids fill them. This would make it so much easier for them, especially the water!
Thanks for sharing!
