So about 100 miles from where I live there is an area that is known for some fairly impressive blue agate. It is not to difficult to find small pieces in the float but I've been chasing a more significant source for about a year. With some pretty basic sleuthing I knew where I wanted to go, but due to distances and pretty rugged terrain it was inaccessible to me. Well, my girlfriend and I got a quad. Took a first prospecring outing last week, and found that the area of float is much larger than I had realized. Yesterday we went out again and found one significant source. It is in both hard rock and ancient ash. It occurs in veins, nodules, geodes and thundereggs. From evidence we found, there is at least one other source yet to be found, possibly several. Here are a few small pieces we picked up yesterday.
