I've developed quite the appreciation for sand over the years, mostly through my mom and her collection and writing. I make a point to carry sample bags with me pretty much everywhere I go. The photographs are done by a friend of ours, and the samples were collected on Guam and Saipan. Those are beautiful pictures! It makes me think twice about beauty I may have missed simply because I did not look close enough.

Love the photos. One never understands the beauty of so many things unless they look closely.

Great pictures, nik! That olivine sand is amazing.
I have a bag of Mogok river gravel that I bought years ago that is fun to look at under magnification.

I collect sand, too. Interesting under the microscope. Interesting history. Thanks for showing.

The only sand I collect in the inadvertent amount that gets into my boots when I'm out hounding sometimes! These pictures are just amazing! I honestly would never have thought so many interesting specimens could be found in sand from various regions. Thanks for posting these pics!

I think I see Sponge Bob, Patrick, and Plankton in that Cocos Island picture!
