I just acquired a really nice septarian geode in the rough. While I have a good grip on how to polish it, what should I use to clean and brighten the crystals in the interior?
Thanks!
David

David I believe that the crystals in most Septarian nodules are Calcite. Calcite is pretty soft so be careful cleaning. I would just use soap and water and a brush to see if that does any thing. As referenced, a picture would be good. Also are you planning on cutting it and then polishing the two halves?

What did you clean it with? It looks angry.

Beautiful rock. I would try using a soft brush, like a paint brush, and some detergent first. Or possibly a vinegar/baking soda fizz. If the crystals are not calcite. Those crystals look pretty fragile. Even the vibration during polishing could cause some to fall off.

Looks like a monster face. Use warm soapy water and a soft brush. No vinegar or acidic stuff should be used.
