i had to cut a piece for mel and in the process it was just so gorgeous that i started trying to figure out how to make some bookends - they still need polishing and these were taken dry my favorites maybe a little uneven in size but.... when you turn them where i cut in the direction of the stripes you get this (same pair as above just turned differently) see what happens when you cut with the stripes - pretty cool both ways now to figure out the polishing kim

very nice Kim! I like the one showing the pieces cut with the stripes- a nice matching face. I bet those two pieces are nice and heavy; and, will a support a lot of books! I have also had nice results cutting at an angle or bias to the stripes to get another neat look.

Great bookends Kim, I like the stripes the best but Cal's idea sounds pretty interesting too.

Kimmy-
Those are just awesome. I've never seen rocks that colorfully banded before. Great stuff.

What is mugglestone and where do you get it? It looks very similar to tigeriron I got from Kingsley North.

cal i guess that is what caused that gorgeous patterning recently on a piece of rainbow jasper i cut - instead of stripes it was a beautiful swirl of colors. i'll have to bring the heel home and get a pic.
toad this is one of the stones i got from africa. cal has some too. i have a cab sands did from it. it is gorgeous. i can feel a bit of undercutting of the hematite when i rub the cut side but it cut without causing my saw to bind like the banded tigerstone did. be interesting to see how it polishes up. it does turn your saw red though!

Beautiful Kim! You know how much I love that mugglestone. You can buy some from Kim and Cal at a great price. I have bought from both of them and have been very pleased. The stones I received from them are just too beautiful to cut, so I left them as they are. You will be very happy buying this rock rough from them and many others!!!

Wow! Just got some mugglestone from Kim today in a batch of trade rocks. Really spectacular material and pics really don't do it justice. Wet in the sun it blows you away. Actually all the materials Kim has are outrageously beautiful. Think the Vogesite is my favorite but they are actually all so nice it's hard to choose and I've never seen any of them in shops or shows here in Calif.Highly advise you all to get some of her rock while you can. You won't be sorry, that's for sure!....mel

Sure, life is easy with a 20" saw. The vertical bands look best with the books, and the side cut (pic 3) looks dynamite too. Think you need two sets of bookends so you can see them both at the same time. Time to call Palladin, or Sandsman. . . . . "Have flat lap - Will travel"
