Holy colorful fortifications, Batman! Those are amazing. For the raw finds, I agree. One and two are the best. There’s something about that yellow…. And now purple? You’re killing me. Right!?! Thank you my friend! The slabs I cut were from the first two. Those first two are actually from the same nodule that had a fracture and broke in half. I still can't believe the lavender tone to those fortifications that came out of that nodule!

Those are awesome, Jason! I do love the yellow banding, but that lavender is quite lovely, too! I can’t wait until you find one with yellow and purple! It’s only a matter of time.

Could you imagine if any of this stuff ever fluoresces? Those are awesome, Jason! I do love the yellow banding, but that lavender is quite lovely, too! I really can't believe how excited I get when I see the yellow...and I was over the moon when I saw the lavender tint on that one! I can't imagine finding a yellow and purple one...I think I'd pass out! LOL

Maybe I could get John Randle to come over this way and be the incentive in finding the yellow/purple Viking Teepee...if nothing else, he might scare some more of the really good stuff out of hiding! LOL

Dang jasoninsd that amethyst-y banding is gorgeous. You got some nice big cuts out of those too, lots to play with.

I haven't done any teepee cabs but figured it's time to try. Trimmed up some tumble rough and got a couple pre-forms cut today, hoping they'll survive the wheels. Sorry for the crap pictures it was getting dark but if they finish ok i'll get good pics:

I figure I'll probably get 6 medium sized cabs and potentially one really large one. When the fortification pattern is this intense, I hate to break it up...so maybe it'll just be 4 large to super large cabs! LOL I haven't done any teepee cabs but figured it's time to try. Fingers crossed on that one holding up to the wheels! That second one looks really solid and has a nice fortification pattern in it!

Picking up surface finds i find a whole lot of odd-shaped and small pieces that usually aren't fit for cabbing so really hoping at least one of these turns out. I've also got some pieces too big for my 10" saw ... might haul them to the Rock Shed and see what they'd charge to cut some slabs for me.
Curious to see what you do with your big slabs.

I have 12-14 slabs that I don't want to cut up. I actually think I'm going to run them through the UV-18 vibe and see how they turn out. I think they're solid enough to handle it. When I do, I'll post pics of the slabs. I've had a couple that were really too big for my 10"...but I luckily made it work. It would have been far easier with a 14" or bigger...

Well, the solid one had a hidden fracture, oh well. Got through most of the chip on the other so i'm even. Also shaped up a scrap piece rather than tossing it in the tumbler. Quick pics as the sun set may try again with lights as auto-focus really didn't appreciate them:

Tim, that's kind of teasing! LOL Those look fantastic...but I'm dying to see them "in focus"...that first one especially. (I'm not one to complain about someone else's pics...as mine aren't the best usually! LOL)

Do they jump out in hand? I often do not notice flaws/cracks until a photograph a piece. It is still a very pretty cab.

I am pleased they held together with no huge breaks, that's often what happens when i tumble teepees. Will be finishing a 12# load today with a few in there so fingers crossed for some survivors.
Thanks for your positivity i appreciate it, fumbled rocks can be a bummer.

Thanks for posting these Tim! I think this one looks spectacular! I love those orbs! This is a SICK cab (in a good way!). I've had a couple slabs that I've cut lately that I thought were going to make some amazing cabs. However, a fracture line split the fortification area that I was going to use as the shape. So, I'm torn on what I want to do with them...so they're "on hold". LOL Do they jump out in hand? I often do not notice flaws/cracks until a photograph a piece. It is still a very pretty cab. Despite what I just said above, I have cabbed some pieces through the fracture line and the cab held together. Something I learned from stephan - Wabi Sabi...there's beauty in "imperfection"! I haven't tumbled any of my Teepee rough. I have quite a bit. So, I'm stoked to see how yours turns out!
