Another one from the yard sale. Unknown location found. Slightly magnetic. Areas where the black was sanded off to expose a silver colored material. Heavy for size. At first I thought it was a small piece of pet wood. After looking under magnifying glass and photographing I am unsure. Black/silver areas are about a 4-5 hardness. Other areas are about a 7 hardness. I hope to test for Silver content today. Thank you.

Specular hematite bands in some kind of matrix. Found in igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary deposits.

Specular hematite bands in some kind of matrix. Found in igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary deposits. Never thought of that. I have some spec. hematite, but it looks different than this. What I have leaves a sparkle dust when handled.

Chromite is slightly magnetic. Did you do a streak test?
