Beauties Jason! I'm always impressed (maybe a wee bit frustrated) at how resilient Botswanas are when we tumble them. Usually take a good long while but the payoffs are mostly worth it.

Great frame/capture on the Botswana. Love that material. Thank you so much! I love the looks of this material too! I bought about 10 pounds of some larger nodules...maybe 3-4" (max), but I've only cut about 2 pounds so far. So I've got a lot of cabs to be made. They are all extremely nice but the last cab is my favorite. Thanks Victor! I really like that last one too. I kind of get the feeling like I'm looking around the base of a tree on that one. Beauties Jason! I'm always impressed (maybe a wee bit frustrated) at how resilient Botswanas are when we tumble them. Usually take a good long while but the payoffs are mostly worth it. Thank you so much! I think I'd go with the "frustrated" when trying to grind this material...I'll go with "impressed" when it's all done! LOL - I haven't tumbled any, but I've read enough threads from people talking about how long this material can take to tumble due to its hardness...which should have set off a few alarms as to how difficult it was going to be to grind! LOL

hard darn done shined stones! Thanks Ed! These might be the closest I get to the "desert" for quite some time! ETA - HA HA! I just realized I put dessert in the title instead of desert! Oops! - Changed that! LOL

Which one is the snow capped one? You're going to need something "cool" to think about going out into the desert like you are.

Beautiful bot, Jason! Love that last one, too. Thanks Robin! I couldn't believe the finish showing up on that Bot even after the 500 stage! That last one really kind of catches my eye. I've got a lot of picture jasper waiting in the wings...unfortunately, Teepees have been so rude and cut in line! LOL

Oh that one! I kept looking at the pics in this thread wondering which one had the white caps! LOL That cab turned out pretty good. It's sitting on the kitchen table waiting to get wrapped.

They are all extremely nice but the last cab is my favorite. I have to agree. That last one is dramatic as heck. jasoninsd are you trying to recreate a cab of your Teepee canyon spot? I have to say, though, for Owyhee jaspers, I prefer the blue “sky.” The brown looks a bit too much like what we get in the summers.

Thank you so very much! I've got a ton of picture jasper...and more "plans" than I seem to have time for! LOL Beautiful cabs, and the shaping on those ovals is spot on. Nice work! Thank you very much! I try really hard to keep the pattern and symmetry. I know I've been doing predominantly oval and teardrop shaped cabs here recently, but I've found rounded shapes are FAR easier for me to work on the flat lap. Any straight edge is just a pain... so they're few and far between right now. They are all extremely nice but the last cab is my favorite. I have to agree. Yeah, that last one seems to have gotten voted prom queen! It does kind of resemble the Teepee Canyon spot, doesn't it? LOL I totally understand about the colors. The rock was all brown when I got it. I tried to use a blue Sharpie, but it just ground off. LOL I have this 20 pound piece that is waiting in the wings for me to slab...it has blue running through the whole piece.

I like to use aluminum to draw my cab shapes, it seems to stand out best compared to other soft metals. Super thin lines also help to achieve that perfect shape. It’s easy to grind into a sharpe or marker line without knowing so. I've had pretty good luck so far using a fine Sharpie, but on occasion it does wash off certain materials. I may have to give the aluminum a go!
