As promised... here is what cam of my cabbing class today. Not much as there were 7 of us, 3 saws and 4 machines (double sided) but somehow we managed. I had this piece of Graveyard Plume from Banjo (thanks again Banjo it's awesome!) Cuts for slabs are usually $2 a cut but cuz this was for class they were free! Yeah! I got 2 cuts - the butt end I cut into small teardrop or oval shapes - pictures to follow Here is the piece that is my favorite piece of the graveyard Plume Here is a closeup of my favorite part - if I can, I'm gonna double cab this one and make a pendant for myself - if I can get the wrapping down at some point - I'm hoping to work on this one next time Here is another slab of Banjo's graveyard Plume This is what I'm gonna make with the butt end - one of the pieces.. This is the other - the white is water on the surface Here is what I got finished while we were there - it looks like it has a butterfly in the centre and another white one in the bottom right - I'm not sure what it is but it's hard as a rock hihi Anyone know what this stuff is? it,s not obsidian, I only got it through the 100 belt and I worked my butt off for this one as it had a crater in the centre and once I got that evened out, there is a vug in the lower right - where it looks polished (I had to fill the vug with epoxy and will have a go at it next time Cher, I hope I've done my part in relieving your boredom I can do a quick go through of what I learned in class so far and start a new thread if anyone's interested in what I did. Thanks for looking

Wow Tweet, you have been a busy girl today, I love your butterfly rock, that is too cool and the colors are awesome. You are getting very good at this, when do you get to go back again? I'd want to be there everyday working on them! That plume agate is pretty too, I had some once that I got off ebay. Broke one slab but it didn't polish very well so sent them to KD. It was really pretty stuff though, lots of blue gray in it. Thanks a bunch for the pics!!

Excellent job. What is a "vug" (a hole I presume?) and what kind of epoxy do you use to fill it.

Thanks guys - my daughter turned the cab sideways (clockwise) and found an owl as well - it's my "wilderness cab" you could also see a sitting teddy bear too (wonder if that one has pellets in his butt?) Tellfamily - the classes are given by my local lapidary silversmithing club (which I'm a part of) it's in Ottawa Canada (a little too far for you I presume) BillE - yes a vug is a hole or fissure in my case - the epoxy I used was 2 part epoxy - the fissure will still be there but it won't fill with polish or grit, it'll be like it had quartz in it - the epoxy just fills the hole - kinda like cheating...

Nice cabbin! In that 4th picture down, if you rotate the circled area 90 degrees counterclockwise, then it looks like a white kitten sitting on a ledge or a boulder.

Cookie, it's bubble gum! No I'm just kidding it's... crap... CRS - it's "something" tack or "tack it" - it's like gum but it's made for holding up posters & stuff (my daughter use to chew it at the daycare thinking it was gum...
Found it - it,s called Fun-Tak - an adhesive reusable putty
RS: I see the kitty too - too bad I didn,t see him before I coulda made him the centre of my cab! - May not be too late - I'll probably do that
Kim - it could be pet wood - it's very nice I can't wait to see it polished up

You're new at this? Could have fooled me. Nice work. And I was thinking like Kim that the last piece may be pet wood. Beautiful even if it isn't. If you do start a thread on what you learned, I'd surely read it. In fact, I'm wondering right now, how hard is cabbing? Again, nice work. Can't wait to see what you do with those slabs. matt

Nice job there tweet- where is the tutorial? I'm waiting? BTW watch out for the red parts in that Plume Agate- they undercut something aweful (at least for me!)
