I was working on some Lions den Morgan Hill heels today which were thick and very rough. I marked a fracture on the flat side and made a narrow 45mm preform to the right of it. I took the remaining piece and ground it down a bit to see the pattern so I could design. I saw a cluster of poppies and framed them with another narrow 45mm shape. I trimmed the shape and then went on a vug hunt; grinding down the rough face looking for problems. I was surprised when the top 30% fell off. The picture on the right shows the fracture which is shiny. I glued it back together and went through 325 soft to show the pattern. I'll take it off the dop and try to redesign. The one on the right doesn't have as a nice a pattern but it didn't fall apart. Since it was from a heel I was working blind and had to accept what showed up. The most interesting feature is the poppy on the bottom which has a vug running through the surface. I'll take the bottom up a few mm and take down the face and accept what is left. The last one is smaller and has a minor vug that may sand off. I will go back to the worn 80 grit and make adjustments on the two that are still in one piece.

As I was removing the glue from the back of the cab with a vug on the bottom, I found out that it was a fracture and about 1mm fell off. I made a new bottom (through 280 soft) and will finish it later. The nose also needs to be squared.
