I’ve liked norena since the first time I met her. Like especially photo 8 of the cats all lined up. : ).

I don't stabilize but that doesn't mean the material shouldn't be stabilized. I see fractures of my slabs in the light(gray?) areas and the light colored branches.

Beautiful cuts! I'm with Pat, loved Noreena from the start, though I wish it would take a better polish...at least the dramatic scenes make up for it. Thanks for sharing!

Excellent! The patterns in this stuff are just mind boggling

This is really beautiful material that should produce beautiful cabs. Thanks for the show.

Gorgeous slabs! Have to agree with Pat - #8 is an especially killer slab.

You really got some great slabs out of that piece! The patterns are amazing!
I've worked it and have slabbed up a piece of rough just a little bigger than yours. I didn't stabilize mine. I have had good results with several pieces, but I did have one piece (cab) break along an unseen fracture line.

That is a nice chunk, and you definitely slabbed the best direction. Noreena will tend to act like breccia and separate at the lines while working it. If you wet the most questionable slabs and carefully watch them dry in the sun, you will see wet lines in the non apparent fractures as it dries and you can either work around them of use resin to hold it together. With these silicated mudstone materials the resin may create areas that look more shiny in the final polish though. Thin slabs backed with basinite or even JB Weld like Turquoise is an option as well to prevent unwanted incidents.

I haven’t really had breakage with this material, but I’ve rarely gotten beyond a satin polish. Someone on this board talked about letting it get hot on the final step. I haven’t tried that, but that trick has worked with other recalcitrant material.
