Hello all, after finishing using the little packets included in nat geo tumblers i need to get some off ebay/amazon. what would be the best grit number for each stage? I also saw zinc oxide for polishing but if im not mistaken zinc is poisonous and i should really get aluminium oxide. Thanks for any help

I used up my nat geo grit then got some from Amazon. It came in orange containers and I wasn't getting very good results. I got some from the rock shed and it made a huge difference. The grit just looks better better and definitely cuts better

I think I would avoid SiC grit with the NatGeo, plastic barrels, right? Aluminum oxide grits and polish would be my suggestion. You are correct about zinc, if you inhale or ingest it you will regret it, flu like symptoms from exposure to too much zinc are not pleasant.

Thank you all for your replies, I live in the UK so it's quite hard to get aluminium oxide at all especially in fine polishing form. I did find this however, would this be suitable? I noticed its brown rather than white, I don't know if that makes a difference

Greetings and welcome from Scotland, the usual is Fixed 80 Silicon Carbide, 220SC, 400SC, Zinc Oxide polish from most UK Lapidary shops, however 600SC, 1200SC cerium Oxide, pumice powder and Tin Oxide can be had from UKGE, Aluminum oxide polish and cerium Oxide polish can be had from Mineral Craft North, Cerium Oxide from Manchester Minerals see my Lapidary Vendors Worldwide for web-links. Roughly speaking you will need at least 5x of F80 to any other grit or polish.
