I've just come back from my second (last) cabbing class. this time we did a double cab (double sided). But first, here is the pet wood that I had to epoxy as it had vugs and it still has vugs after all that! but now at least it,s finished. Not sure what to do with it now Here is my butterfly cab - I've used jumprings in a half persian 1-3weave and I've tried my best to close it properly but I'll have to try again. - I'd need smaller rings for this to look right - but I like it anyways. Here is some of Banjo's graveyard plume - (Banjo I hope I did you proud on these pieces) too bad the pictures don't do it justice - just where the flash hits it - there seems to be some kind of metalic inclusion (pyrite maybe) - my god this stuff is tough - it was a B#$% to grind down & shape Here is another piece of Bamjo's graveyard plume - this one should have been a better teardrop - but it a .. um. freeform cab...yeah.... that's what it is a freeform cab! I much prefer the thinner cabs in this stuff as you can see through them - but it's amazing stuff anyways! Sorry about the bad lighting, but it's getting dark very early these days and not much sun is getting through! Thanks for looking

Great Job on all of them Tweetie! Pretty soon you'll become a real pro at this and you'll be famous! Everyone will wish they had a "tweetie Cab".

Thanks guys - the class over - they offer wire wrapping, intarsia, wax sculpting and some other stuff - I wanted to take the wire wrapping with my daughter but the class is $85 each and she supplies all the materials - you come out with 4-5 wrapped cabs. But $170 is a little too expensive for me to take a class with my daughter - I'll check my options.
I forgot to mention that Tami (Creativeminded) got me hooked onto chainmail - all because of that byzantine necklace - now look where it's gotten me (my daugther loves it too - she asked for pliers for her birthday!!) Talk about non-tradition-girl present!!
I liked those classes - but I can still go to the club on Saturdays to make cabs!!

Kim: I just put a ring of jump rings (in Half Persian 1-3) around the cab (was just lucky that it fit) but I need smaller rings and a way to make it stay as it slips off - folks are mentioning epoxy but I'd rather make it a bit smaller and close off the back.
I also learned a very vivid lesson in fractures. As I was cutting out the first graveyard plume, I started cutting around the shape and as I started cutting, my piece would come off completely as there was a fracture within (clean break - pretty amazing, but I'd never realized what a fracture meant until this point) another one came off just a bit into my cab this time - fracture from the other side, which I didn't see - but I was lucky as I re-shaped my cab a bit and saved most of it - but I now know how this thing works (I have a few pieces of amethyst that are fractury and they might do the same thing…. I hope not as I really LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE amethyst
