So is your camper permanently parked now? Looks like a really pretty area. The waterfall is really nice, bet it's great to listen too.

Well they gotta put in the sewer and re-route the electric- But the camper is there waiting to be moved (hopefully we can do it in a few weeks) Kinda strange not having the camper in the drive- Oh and the waterfalls are awesome- and fully accesable (no ropes no fences just rock and water!) We love this campground and always said that if we went seasonal- this would be the place- Well We towed out there and Gas cost us $30 (one way) so we know we made the right choice- And like I said the falls is only a 3 to 5 min walk from our site - guess where my morning walk will be?

Killer Cowboy Caddie!!! I like. I am going to have to get some of those rear fenders, and swap out for dualies. Yeah! Do you have the 454, or 350 on board. I am going to speculate on the 454. You have 16" wheels. That means you have a TH400, with a 3.23 rear. You will also have TBI. If you put a TBI spacer under the throttle body, you will pick up 20% more torque, and 8% better fuel mileage right off the top. You will not have to reroute the inbound fuel line, it will stretch if you pull it out towards the radiator. The spacer will not interfere with emissions controls, and comes with a corresponding C.A.R.B compliance decal. We got a 'burban with the 454 and I added the spacer. Things changed the moment we started it up. 86 was a split year. It either had a Quadrajet, or TBI. If it has a Quadrajet, the spacer for the 'quad also does the same thing. Nice ride! We get 18mpg around town with our 454 and spacer. We are rated to carry 11,300lbs on the tongue, and tow 25,000lbs.

Stefan - You just got the Ansel Adams of the week prize.
But now that we know your camera works, your rocks really do look like crap. Only kiddin'.
Is your campsite anywhere near Lechworth?

On a hot day, parking yourself among those gentle water cascades would be a fantastic way to cool off!

Doc you are correct- 454 4 barrel- only it has 4.10 rear (heavy 1 ton- rated to carry 2500 pounds)- It does have 16 inch tires (just put 6 new ones on) The motor mods sound a bit beyond my abilities but If we keep it (yea the truck may go up for sale) I will talk to my mechanic (the guy is awesome with older motors and loves to see this truck come in) Rich- I am about 15 min from Letchworth! If you take 436 towards Dansville- then turn off on 70 we are just past Canasragua (sp) In Arkport. If you ever get out there stop in and visit- RS that is exactly what we do!!!!

Stephan, the mods are really simple. The carb mod is a 20 minute deal. To really save on fuel, with a 4:10, switch to a 700R4 tranny with OD. Keeping the foot off the pedal, and anticipating stops really helps with fuel mileage. Gliding to a stop light, and not having to stop will pick up mpg. Changing from 235/75R16 rear tires to 265/70R16 will also pick up some mpg without messing with the speedo. Going headers with 2 1/2" pipes with dual cats, and siamese crossover really makes a big difference. The 454 is a million mile engine. The difference in fuel mileage vs repair and rebuild really averages out better than a mileage car that constantly needs tweaking. Also, putting a cam in the engine will get instant results with mileage. A .214/.214 with the 454 bumps up the torque. More torque, less fuel. The lift ratio is 1.7. Going roller tip rockers, will provide some mpg increase by limiting the rolling mass friction internally. If you want, I can spec out parts to make sleeper a giant with good manners. I built my wife a 383/350 425hp engine for her van. It is a G20 van that picks the front wheels off the ground upon acceleration from 35mph! We hauled 6 tons in it coming back from Los Angeles and averaged 22mpg! Edelbrock also makes a TBI the replaces the Quadrajet. It is a direct drop in with a manifold change. We muscle car gear heads are finally getting some recognition with todays fuel issues. We can build either street rockets for show and go, or, lumpers for mileage that will pull houses off foundations. Slick ride dude.

Doc- Your way over my head- here is a kicker for ya- the tires-- 7.50x16! Not the easiest tire to find around here (thank god my neighbor is a tire wholesaler and was able to get me them) To make the changes you suggest- How much money are we talking about? Like I said I'm not sure we are gonna keep this truck-- I just don't need to haul that much now that the trailer is parked- and this beast ain't the easiest thing to cruse around town with!

7.50X16, are 235/85R16. If you paid someone, it would probably run 1200-1500$ with parts. That is the high end with cam change, new lifters, pushrods, rockers, manifold, carb, gaskets, labour. If you keep the rig, it is worth the money. It used to be, if you hopped up the rig you lost out in the end with the joy of using the hp. Today, with fuel jumping, this setup could pay for itself in two years with average driving. If you can change a light bulb, you can do all the work. If you can tumble, identify, cut, shape stones, you can do the work, and the reading needed. It is that simple. Everybody has a mechanic friend who works miracles for beer. The simplest way to start, is to get a carb spacer. There are four bolts, four washers, two gaskets needed, and the spacer, plus longer studs. Twenty minute job, and the carb does not get readjusted. The computer compensates for the difference in about 100 miles. You can also add one ounce of acetone to ten gallons of fuel. That brings about mpg increase in two tanks. When you fill up, bring a one gallon container. Put one ounce of acetone in the container, fill with fuel, add to the tank and fill up. The acetone also absorbs water from the fuel, and cleans out deposits from the lines. It does not hurt the membranes in the carb. Not at that level anyway. You can also put in a new chip in the 'puter. As far as driveability, you will learn how to handle it, and when it is out of comission for repairs, or whatever, you will miss its size, and handling. You will find the parts you need to do the work at www.summitracing.com ask for their catalogue, and I will guide you if you need it. You will learn a lot. If my wife, from Los Angeles, can learn to drive our rig, make legal stops, lane changes, and maintain speed limits, so can you learn to drive that sweet heart. I will tell you what, if a Q-Tip runs a stop sign, or light, guess who is going to come out ahead! Down here in Floriduh, the big boys are the only way to stay alive. Q-Tips, Bubbas, Rednecks, and Crunchrockets. It is a duck shoot. We get through without a scratch! Plus, if I ever need to pull my house off the foundation, all I need is a chain.

Hmmm When I looked at the 235's they told me that on the dualley (especially when towing) you run the chance of them rubbing (I did not think this was a problem as both wheels are turning at the same speed) but the insaller said is was more of a heat issue (less heat disspersion) Plus the 235's were about $15 dollars MORE! I ordered there catalog- I'm very tempted (as this truck only has 59,950 miles on it) I talked to the wife about it and she does not want me to get rid of it (she admitted that she loves this monster- and the fact that she can slid over on the bench seat and snuggle me if she wants- not that she ever does- but just that she could!) I don't drive this truck other than to haul the camper around- but the thought od keeping it is pretty appealing- I'll keep you informed about what I decide!

You wanna play big block? We can do it. If I do not catch the post, PM me, and we can build a real toy. With those miles, and that year, it is worth it. First thing to do, is change the oil to Syntec 10/40. Semi synthetic is good for big blocks.

Already running that (My mechanic told me from the first time he saw this truck to run Syntec 10/40- told me the engin would easily top 300,000 miles). When I get ready to build it I'll let you know- I am buttoning her up for winter right now (this has to be a summer project as my garage is too narrow to fit this beast in!) Plus I had a guy stop yesterday who is wondering if I want to sell- Oh what to do? THanks Doc for all the advise and encouragment-
