This is moonstone, done in a very, very large tumbler. It took on a nice rounded shape, but has some remaining blemishes and craters. The shine could be better too. Maybe I just need a different polish? (Okay, that's just silly, but the moon is full tonight, so that's my excuse.)

Yours definitely has better colour, but you cheated!! -- you took yours of last October's lunar eclipse! Nice shot, BTW. Looks like you took your pic through a scope. Ten or more years ago I bought the camera mount and guidescope to get into that myself, plus slow-motion controllers for my scope. Alas, that equipment still sits in a cupboard somewhere, gathering dust, never used. Turns out I'm more of a point-and-shoot camera guy. Live and learn. Here's a scan of one of my favourite astro photos that I've taken myself, plain old SLR camera on bulb setting, 50 mm, f/1.8 lense, wide open for 30 seconds, on a tripod, triggered with a quick-release cable, ISO 1000 film: Hmm... I guess I should have started this thread in life, universe, etc.

Those are pretty - I noticed a HUGE moon last night too - but hey, Where's the man in the moon? Shouldn't I be able to see him?

Great moonstone. Will you wirewrap it for us? All the rest of the photos are very good but nothing compared with that moon coming up over the lake last night! Joe
