Like I said before, I know it sounds crazy but it works great for me, here's how I get them round before sticking them in the vibe. I did the batch of tiger eye in just two weeks and I'm really happy with them. I'm also posting a before and after (uncut/cut) for comparison. the rock shown took about five minutes......

im confused as to how you use that. is there some clamping device that holds the rock, and you use the saw by hand? or do you have it spinning just as it is in the picture, and hold the rocks by hand? could you explain it a bit more?

Do you do this shaping dry or wet?

Yikes, I could never do this. A few years back I touched the table saw blade with two fingers, just got the tips (they are still numb), but whenever my fingers get to close to a blade I get flash backs.
I'm sure I don't have to tell you to be careful, it seems like an obvious statement. (I guess I have to admit my fingers get a bit too close to the rock saw blade when I'm trimming)

Randy, what type of blade do you use, I have considered doing this with my table saw, hanging a IV type bottle with a regulator to drip water on the blade as I cut.

LOL, you can actually "touch" the blade while it's spinning, I've been cutting tile for a few years. The blade is just a diamond blade from Home Depot, I hold the rock in my hand. It's really not as bad as you'd think, it's really quite easy. Like I said before though, I can't recommend this to anyone since it's not the saw's intended purpose.

LMAO THat is a pretty cool idea- I'm guessing that you clamp the saw down in some way- neccesity is truely the mother of invention

Thanks Tami! chassroc- It's made for cutting but I use it for both. The edge of the blade can be used to grind with, that's how I get the rocks so round. I just finished with ten more, but I won't show these. I have high expectations for these and I wouldn't want to ruin the surprize. ;D

OK, now you've got me really intrigued. How do you wet the blade/do you wet the blade? What's your technique? Inquiring minds wanna know. matt
ps. very cool rocks.

;D I don't wet them while I'm cutting and grinding, the blade doesn't heat up too bad. After grinding you can grab the blade, it's hot but not that hot. I'm going to figure out how to post video so I can give a better idea of what I'm doing. This is just an idea that I came up with about 6 weeks ago, it's really easy to do with a little practice and you can grind the rocks into shapes as well. I always like them nice and round, they seem to take a better shine that way.

Holy cow Randy, I'm thinking a pair of cast iron cahonys are in order to use that kind of tool for shaping.
I started bleeding just looking at it!
