I thought I'd add in further food for thought.
Although I'm a relatively newcomer to the forum, I've been watching the contest for a number of months, and only just started entering .
I wonder if the voting should be "categorized".
Here's what I mean - As it is now, you vote for an individual cab, yes or no, and are supposed to consider many areas:
contest theme, cab itself, photo, etc .
So what if people, instead of voting yes or no (with a check in the box), instead they voted with a numbering / scoring system - In fact, they could vote for more than one cab even, in different categories.
Maybe only being allowed to vote for 1 cab in each category.
I'll give a for instance, using the current voting criteria list below, that voters are supposed to consider.
With the following changes:
Voting could be categorized such as the below list (Maybe with further additions / changes)
Each category would be voted separately with a numbering system 1-10 - With 10 being the highest.
The person with the highest total score at the end, wins.
1) How well was the theme challenge of the contest theme met ?
2) How well did the shape of the stone meet the general contest requirements, or any special theme-based shape requirements?
3) General appearance, beauty, artistic creativity.
4) Photography - is there a direct and focused front shot and a direct and focused side shot for voting purposes?
Of course I do see one large problem - I think it would be be a lot of work for
Tommy to even set up.
It might also mean that less people vote overall, since it's not a simple check, but a thought out vote or score in each category.
OTOH - I for one would think it would be more educational that way, and help (me anyway) strive to do better.
It might also take a little away from the unspoken "material rules" aspect - Which in some ways would be more fair, seeing as we all don't have the 20+ year rock stash :-O
Patty, probably making things difficult, as usual.........
