Some new ones. Group shot: Wondering about the ID...this is a beautiful rock that originally had a bumpy, sort of orange peel feel. It polished beautifully that way, but I put it back until I got it smooth. It really has a great shine. This marking sure looks like a knot in wood doesn't it? How about these stripes? And a couple close ups. Thanks for looking!

Man I can't believe the colors you collected, that one in the first pic is gorgeous. To find purples that aren't amethyst is really cool. Beautiful stones Puppie, great job.

Very nice collection of jaspers, puppie! What I also like about jasper and other opaque rocks is that when there are fractures in them, they don't hardly show after polishing like transparent/translucent agate fractures do. ed/cuervo

I thought S. Dakota was supposed to be boring. Just PR to hide their native rock secret. joe

Hi, thanks for the comments! Cher, I get really excited when I find purple rocks, especially when they polish like these did, since often they seem to be a polish problem. Ed, the fractures are sort of inevitable. I'm amazed how much surface imperfections show up on film when they look mirror finished in real life without flaws. Wow.

Drupe dear, why do the rocks make you cry? They are happy rocks. Stefan, far as I know the knothole is just a knothole. Fairburns don't really look like that, the patterns are fortification type (holly leaf appearancce) and more contrast.

Puppie, Amazing! I bought some South Dakota Agate rough on e-bay and mine didn't turn out near that nice. I did have some of the striped ones and orangish colored ones....but you really collected some great stuff there. I'm sure some of those will be sent in the box...at least I'm hoping so. Excellent Job! Drupe...tears of joy, tears of happiness, tears just because they are so beautiful, I'm sure they are good tears. I cry to when I see something so Beautiful, so Perfect, so Superior to mine. Thanks for making us cry Puppie. LOL! Steve

LOL -- I love the stuff I collected, but when I've ordered prairie agate and jasper from Shawn in the past, it was very nice too and inexpensive. They definitely benefit from extended grinding. Do you have a picture of yours?

Shawn's prairie agate was one of the first rocks that put me in the vibe vs barrel tumbler dilemma, because even as broken and weirdly shaped pieces, it was such an easy polish. So you have to decide how much you want to round them and tough it out with the barrel if you want the conventional shapes, otherwise it's too easy to make a few day job out of it.

Tell me about it! I busted some up, cut some, left some as is, And it just sits there- I can't decide if I want to cab it, tumble it or what! - I think I got some running in one barrel now (either course or 500 I can't remember which! or maybe it is waiting to go into 120/220!)
