I use a digital caliper to measure cab thickness. All the ones I see use a button battery with a sliding piece of plastic to cover the battery case. The plastic won't stay in place and then the caliper doesn't work. I tried putting tape over cover but it doesn't help much. I have been looking for a caliper that uses an aaa battery and have not been successful. Any suggestions?

A simple Google search - General Tools 147 Digital Fractional Caliper with Extra-Large LCD Screen, 3 Mode Display, 6-InchesFound this at Amazon. On the first page it says it takes an SR44 button battery. But if you click specifications, it says 1 AAA battery, included. Below that, it says "Battery Cell Type Silver Oxide." I'd make some phone calls/ask some questions before buying. The ad also said this item was first sold in 2007. So maybe old info? Yes Battery Cell Type Silver Oxide Warranty Description 1 YR When I googled "digital calipers using AAA battery," it came up with hacks (with instructions) for gluing a AAA battery pack into the caliper. www.robotshop.com/media/files/pdf/Digital-Caliper-Battery-Hack.pdfOf course, it would be a lot better if it just came that way! Good luck!

I had the same problem with another type of meter and was able to cut a metal binder (large type of paper clip) to hold everything together. Looks like crap but never comes apart. They just want you to buy a new one. This is a major problem when someone copies something and makes it cheap in another country. They just do not get the fit & finish right and it breaks.

Good luck! I found the same one and bought it before posting. With Amazon listings there are mistakes. I didn't believe it took an aaa battery but the cover on the battery compartment has a screw. With the slide on compartment cover there is a spring under the battery which makes the compartment unstable. One of the negative reviews was that the screw went flying because there is also a spring under the battery. At least, I've been warned.

The new caliper arrived today. Metal instead of plastic and quite heavy. The round battery is more than twice the size of what I've had before. A diagram is provided for battery replacement and it came with two extra batteries. It also comes with a large case and will be harder to lose.
