I am sharing this in hopes of helping others.
On July 19th I woke up with very sore ribs, neck and back. Thought I might have done something to them in my sleep, like pulled some muscles, etc. It was a very humid day, with storms in the forecast. Previously broken bones often hurt during these times.
I went to work the next day, still sore. Ended up working the entire week, plus Sunday of the next week. Every time I took a deep breath, there was pain. Pain while doing some other routine tasks. It was very humid around here during this time. Thought the high humidity levels were affecting my breathing.
Went to work on July 27th. After less than 30 minutes, I became very dizzy and had the chills. My employer had me rest for a while. He ended up taking me home.
I checked my temperature. It was less than 96. Blood oxygen was low and heart rate high.
Went to Dr. the next day. She thought I had pneumonia. Prescribed antibiotics.
I was referred to a larger clinic for chest x-rays and a COVID test. Chest x-rays confirmed pneumonia.
Was told to stay home, drink lots of water, rest and monitor vitals.
By August 2nd, there was no improvement. Things were getting worse. Was referred to Urgent Care, but was told not to drive myself. A neighbor dropped me off, while he went grocery shopping.
Was prescribed two inhalers. Told to call 911 of blood oxygen/heart rate reached certain levels. Told to keep doing what I was and follow up with my Dr. on Thursday.
What my Dr. said on August 5th was alarming. She is treating 5 people for a “very strange” type of pneumonia. All of us had the same symptoms at onset. Almost everyone started having symptoms around the same time. Everyone still has symptoms. Three of those were vaccinated for pneumonia. That is a lot of people for the small community where the clinic is.
My Dr. said it will be at least another month before I fully recover. She did release me to try working for 5 hours on Sunday, with many restrictions. But, told me to use my own judgment.
I do not feel well enough yet to work. If there is an air quality alert, I must wear a mask when outside. Must wear a mask whenever I am anywhere around others.
Am to limit time outside of my home. To go on brief walks, outside, when air quality allows for it. To sleep in an elevated back position. Put me on a diet designed to increase immunity. Latest blood tests show that my immune system is very weak.
Off work for another week.
Dr. did say that if I would have come in at onset of symptoms, she did not know if things would be different.
My daughter has been wonderful during this time. She has brought me food/meds.
It is scary living alone during this time.
I will beat this, for sure. It will just take longer than I anticipated.
Please, if anything strange is going on, see your Dr. Wish I would have sooner.
Thanks for reading.
