Okay, I have actually ID'd a few rocks from Wyoming. We collected these at one of the "apple green jade" sites and found some green stones that may be jade. We also found a fair amount of translucent quartzy stone ranging from clear through smoky with a variety of inclusions. The ones in the center with the star-like fuzzy inclusions are Sweetwater agate for sure -- we were in that county and near that river and they really match the photos I've found. The ones with other kinds of inclusions, I'm not sure, maybe falls in the more general Moss agate class. A group and a close up: Thanks again for looking!

Puppie, the spotted ones are spotted agates - my spotted agates usually have the spots on the outside of the rocks only like a sandwich where the filling is clear/smoky agate and the bread is the spotted layer

Tami, did you buy sweetwater agates or collect them? The pictures I saw look like the rocks in the closeup with the fuzzy spots in them -- iron shavings like Stefan said, is a good description. Curious whether the ones that don't have those fuzzy spots still qualify as sweetwater agates -- I'd love to see a picture of yours. I've been thinking I might run these more in a barrel to get a more rounded shape. Hard to get the surfaces to smooth out and the vibe polishes them anyhow. Thanks!

Puppie, some very nice stuff you've posted over the past couple days since I last checked in here. The bubblegums have the great colours, but I think my faves are these Sweetwaters with the nice inclusions... look like Montana agates to me. Very nice.

The bubblegum really is a hit! It's cool how it has really contrasting spots and such in it. I put the sweetwater aka spotted aka Montana aka moss agate back in a rough grind, I decided that some of it could use more shaping and it was worth trying to smooth many of the surfaces better, so we'll see.

They really are cool, aren't they? I figure it's worth it to see whether some of the frost can be ground off the surface and whether some of the out of shape ones can be better rounded. Can you imagine these things with flawless surfaces. WOW.

Kim, I thought maybe he meant that the stones looked glassy? I lit them from underneath in a glass bowl but I don't think that's what he meant. Tami, do you have a picture of your Sweetwater Agate?
